NEW YORK: President General Pervez Musharraf has said that Pakistan has no intension to recognize Israel as that step would not only isolate the country from the Muslim Ummah but would also destabilize him.
President Musharraf while addressing and later answering the questions of the students of the Faculty of the Medical College and Graduate School of Medical Sciences of Cornell University in New York on Tuesday night highlighted all the important issues on regional and international level and clarified Pakistan`s position in this regard.
Gen Pervez Musharraf while answering a question about recognizing Israel, said that before the creation of an independent Palestine state and Israel`s evacuation of all the occupied areas, there is no possibility to establish diplomatic relations with Israel.
Commenting on the Pak-India relations, President Musharraf said that without the resolution of long lingering issue of Kashmir, peace in South Asia is impossible as it is the core issue between the two countries. President Musharraf on the occasion said that people of both the two countries want that peace process to be moved in the right direction and all the issues including Kashmir to be resolved which is imperative for sustainable peace in the region.
Again rejecting the baseless allegations of Afghan President Hamid Karzai, Gen Musharraf said that the center of Taliban in Afghanistan not in Pakistan and it would be better if Afghan President first put his own house in order. The blame game now should be end, he stressed.
Asked about Pak-US relations, the president said that Pakistan has paramount geo-strategic importance and no country including US can ignore us. He said that the relations between Pakistan and the United States are in good shape and would be further enhanced. The President said that Pakistan cannot be left alone as Pakistan is developing in every field and we are a key ally on war on terror.
Asked about allegations of biased and unfair elections in 2002, the President said that if it happened then not a hung parliament emerged nor he faced difficult situations, adding that the government is facing a strong opposition.
President said that besides a military man he strengthened democracy and brought a political system in the country. He said that the next general elections in the country would be held in 2007 in a free, fair and transparent manner.
Asked about his book "In the Line of Fire", the president said that I have written my autobiography in the book in details.
Commenting on the Pakistan economy, Gen Musharraf said that the economic situation of the country now in better condition and GDP, per capitia income, foreign reservoirs and living standard of people has been improved. He said that the country`s exports have been increased and investment is coming in the country.
