ISLAMABAD: A detailed briefing on current situation of Middle East and different ideas being discussed for the settlement of Palestine issue was given by foreign secretary Riaz Ahmad Khan in foreign office to the diplomats of member countries of Organisation of Islamic Countries (OIC) based in Pakistan.

Foreign office sources told Online Wednesday that envoys of like minded member countries of OIC as well as other Islamic countries attended the meeting.

Riaz Khan told them president General Pervez Musharraf earlier undertook visit of 9 Islamic countries and exchanged views in detail with the leadership of these countries on worsening situation in Middle East. President discussed various ideas with them for improvement in the situation.

He told Pakistan would continue to play its pivotal role for improvement in the situation. " We want OIC platform be used in this connection", he added.

Riaz Khan pointed out that in the recently held conference of foreign ministers of like minded Muslim countries, new ideas came under discussion. All the foreign ministers were of unanimous opinion that Palestine issue be resolved. Israel should pull out its forces from occupied territories and establishment of an independent state of Palestine be ensured.

He underlined Pakistan would continue consultation process. The concerns being voiced by different circles are not correct that Pakistan is forming a new block of like minded countries, he added. We want deteriorating situation of Middle East is improved and nuclear stand off between Iran and US is addressed through diplomacy. Security situation in Iraq be improved and the geographical status of Lebanon is safeguarded.

Sources informed diplomats from different OIC member countries voiced their support for steps taken by Pakistan and ideas presented for the resolution of Palestine dispute and termed them movement forward in right direction.
