SRINAGAR: In occupied Kashmir, the All Parties Hurriyet Conference Chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and the veteran Kashmiri Hurriyet leader, Syed Ali Gilani, have demanded complete withdrawal of Indian troops from the territory.

They made the demand while reacting to the recent statement of Indian Defence Minister, A K Antony, wherein he had mentioned India’s intention of the reduction of Indian troops in the occupied territory.

Addressing a gathering in Srinagar, the Mirwaiz said that the recent visit of Indian defence minister and army chief was acknowledgement of the military rule in the occupied territory. He maintained that martial law was in place in Kashmir and the authorities were helpless before Army at every level.

Syed Ali Gilani, in a statement described Antony’s statement as a political gimmick aimed at misleading the international community. He said that the killings and atrocities would not end until the last Indian trooper was withdrawn from occupied Kashmir.

A meeting that was held in Srinagar with the JKLF Chairman, Muhammad Yasin Malik, in the chair, on the completion of 24 years of mass freedom struggle in Kashmir paid glowing tributes to the Kashmiri martyrs for offering unprecedented sacrifices for the cause.

Speakers at a seminar in Srinagar, today, said that the Kashmiris should be given their inalienable right to self-determination as promised by the UN through its resolutions. The seminar was organised by Mahaz-e-Azadi and the speakers included Muhammad Azam Inqilabi, Bashir Ahmad Butt, Muhammad Yousuf Naqash, Farooq Ahmad Dar, Javed Ahmad Mir and Shakeel Ahmad Bakhshi.

In New Delhi, the speakers at a function called for demilitarisation, repeal of draconian laws, release of illegally detained Kashmiris and bringing to justice the Indian troops involved in rape and molestation of women in the occupied territory. The function was organised by Indian civil society organisations and addressed among others by Brinda Karat, Jyotsna Chatterjee and Sehba Farooqui.

End.
