BNP-M contemplates abandoning parliamentary process
04 June, 2013
QUETTA: Balochistan National Party (BNP-M) chief Sardar Akhter Mengal on Monday said his party would announce on June 30 whether to remain part of the parliamentary process, after having consulted district members of the party.
Addressing the media at his residence, he said his party would issue a white paper about the misappropriations in the elections, adding that "wresting power from the strong jaws of establishment is not an easy task" adding that "results of the elections in Balochistan were hijacked in the darkest hour of the night and at the same time brightest hour of the day."
He said his party workers were being terrorised by death squads. "The Baloch were living a life of third grade citizens in the country for the past 6 and half decades. The will of the people is the most dignified entity in the democratic process but in the dark of the night the results of elections were altered in the camps of a force known as FC, which comprises of non-Baloch men," he alleged.
He said his party voluntarily took part in elections to hamper the ongoing inhumane operations, dumping of mutilated bodies, bloodshed, reinstating the self-esteem of people, and to stop the looting of resources. He claimed that the ruling elite had scared away the observers of European Union and Pakistan from coming to Balochistan, adding that the social, economic and other conditions in Balochistan are worsening.
"The clear evidence of this fact was intensification of military operations in Mand, Isplinji, Turbat and other Baloch districts during the government making process," he said.
Sardar Akhter Jan Mengal further said his party had come to the conclusion that the way of Balochistan National Party was obstructed to assemblies by throttling the public mandate because it spoke about the deprivation of people of their true representatives, turning Baloch into a minority through an expected census, settlement of Afghan refugees in Balochistan, violation of human rights and projects of Gwader, Reko diq and IP gas pipeline. He said that the pro-Baloch journalists were also given serious threats which BNP strongly condemns.
Replying to a question, he said that Dr. Abdul Malik's government would have to face several challenges including recovery of missing persons, rehabilitation of internally displaced people and others. The biggest challenge that Dr. Abdul Malik's government would have to face is that whether he would have real or symbolic powers.
End.
