Some development on Kashmir, no agreement signed yet: Kasuri

ISLAMABAD: Foreign Minister Khurshid Mehmood Kasuri has said that there is some progress on the lingering issue of Kashmir but no agreement has been signed between Pakistan and India. Talking to a private TV Channel, the Foreign Minister said that the public opinion would be given significant consideration before signing any agreement and it would also be debated in the Parliament. He said that the any agreement would also be discussed in the media, adding that the aspirations of Kashmiri people would be give importance before signing any agreement. Asked about Emma Nicholson report on Kashmir, the Foreign Minster said that the human rights violations in Occupied Kashmir should also be discussed in the report. Expressing his views regarding free media, Khurshid Mehmood Kasuri said that foreign leaders comment on internal affairs of Pakistan only when asked questions in this context. This proves that there are no restrictions on asking some questions and reflects that media is functioning freely in the country, added by the Foreign Minister. The Foreign Minister when asked about G-8 Conference said that Pakistan and Afghanistan have been invited first time which reflects the importance of the region for international peace. A number of G-8 countries have immense interest in the internal situation of Afghanistan as their troops are stationed in the country, added by the Foreign Minister. Khurshid Mehmood Kasuri clearly stated that we are not playing any game in Afghanistan, adding that whatever steps we have taken along bordering areas of Afghanistan are for our national interest not to please the United States, Europe or G-8. Commenting on meeting with his Indian counterpart in German city Hamburg, the Foreign Minister said that” I have read news of his expected meeting with India External Affairs Minister”.
