SAN FRANCISCO : PayPal, the online payments unit of eBay Inc, said on July 13 that the company plans to open an engineering center in Arizona by November that will employ more than 400 people in three years.

PayPal spokeswoman Jamie Patricio said the new technology center in Scottsdale, Arizona, will support PayPal's existing technology development operations in Silicon Valley and its 3,000-employee customer support center in Omaha, Nebraska.

The company also has customer service operations in Dublin, Ireland. In total, San Jose, California-based online auction company eBay employs more than 11,000 employees world-wide.

The PayPal Scottsdale facility will focus on handling product development, operations, infrastructure design and engineering tasks, Patricio said.
