Pak supports unity, integrity, sovereignty of Iraq: PM

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz has said that peace, security and internal harmony are critical for the future of Iraq and Pakistan fully supports its unity, integrity and sovereignty. The Prime Minister said this while talking to Mr. Ashraf Jehangir Qazi, Special Representative of the UN Secretary General for Iraq who called on him in the PM's House Saturday afternoon. The Prime Minister said that Iraq is an important country of the Muslim Ummah with vast oil reserves, agricultural potential and an educated work force. Sustainable peace in Iraq will augur well for the development of the entire region, he added. He said there is a need for better understanding in Iraq and the international community must play its due role to ensure peace there. The Prime Minister said Pakistan is committed to a unified Iraq where people from different backgrounds can live together peacefully. Mr. Ashraf Jehangir Qazi updated the Prime Minister on the recent developments in Iraq and the steps being taken by the UN to restore peace there.
