KUWAIT, January 31 (Online): Five suspected militants were killed in a gunfight with police south of Kuwait City on Monday that also left two policemen injured, state television said.

Four people were arrested in the clash, the fifth deadly gun battle between security forces and suspected militants in the oil rich emirate this month.

The firefight occurred in the al Qurain region about 25 kilometres (15 miles) south of the capital the day after a gun battle involving suspected extremists that left three people dead and five injured near Kuwait City.

Police had surrounded a house suspected of sheltering armed men.
