ISLAMABAD: Former Opposition leader of the United Kingdom and Shadow Foreign Secretary of the British Conservative Party Mr William Hague called on foreign Minister Khurshid Mehmood Kasuri here Wednesday. Mr Hague is in Islamabad for a two day visit to Pakistan.

Foreign minister Kasuri expressed satisfaction at the fast expanding bilateral trade, which has crossed US$ 1.4 billion. He also appreciated the enhancement of development cooperation between the two countries to around US$ 900 million over three years and the signing of a ten-year development partnership agreement.

Foreign Minister urged greater access for Pakistan in the European Union for creation of more jobs that could help fight poverty and extremism. Mr Hague assured that Conservative Party' would support enhanced market access for Pakistan Conservative party has around 5% share of the MEP's in the European Parliament.

Foreign Minster Kasuri underlined the need for resolution of major disputes confronting Muslim Countries such as Palestine and Kashmir for curbing extremism and promoting interfaith harmony.

Kasuri also exchanged views with the shadow foreign secretary on Pakistan-Indian relations, Afghanistan and the Middle East.

Pakistan and the UK enjoy deep rooted ties of friendship and multi-faceted cooperation encompassing diverse areas. UK is Pakistan's largest trading partner in Europe and 4th largest in the world. It is also one of the largest investment partners of Pakistan. Foreign Minister Kasuri and Mr William Hague agreed that the million strong Pakistan origin community in the UK is a strong bon between the two countries.
