ISLAMABAD, May 17 (Online): Pakistan Muslim League president Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain, along with Punjab chief minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Ellahi and his younger brother Chaudhry Wajahat Hussain MNA went to Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali, former prime minister, here at his residence in Balochistan House on Monday and claimed to have successfully quelled Mr. Jamali's qualms on certain party affairs.

During the meeting that lasted for almost one and a half hours, Chaudhry Shujaat gave his version on the talk he recently had with Geo television in which he declared Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali was not a Muslim Leaguer ever since he stepped down as prime minister.

Ch Shujaat urged Jamali to support him in strengthening the party both in centre and provinces after setting aside his reservations.

Mir Zafarullah Jamali resented Shujaat's statement that, according to him, had mentally disturbed him.

Later, Chaudhry Shujaat told reporters that he had successfully assuaged Jamali sahib's misgivings that had emanated from his talk to Geo TV.

He urged the pressmen to be more responsible while covering the events and authenticate a new item before filing it to avoid bringing bad name to the profession.

He said 'a wrong news item' had adversely impacted party interests.

He claimed he was running the party affairs after consulting senior Leaguers and had no differences with Jamali sahib whom he held in high esteem for his meritorious services for party.

He said he would continue taking aboard senior party leaders before deciding party matters.

Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali, on the occasion, said he was least interested in becoming party's senior vice president and would love to work for party as an ordinary activist.

He said, "Today, we (Chaudhrys and Jamali) have pledged to avoid saying or doing anything that may harm party interests in future."

He said he would have avoided attending wedding ceremony of Chaudhry Shujaat's son in Gujrat and meeting him there, if he had some 'big' differences with Chaudhrys.

He said he had requested Ch Shujaat to take party decisions only after consulting everyone in the party and not a handful people.

Meanwhile, Information Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmad has said political situation of the county is normal asserting Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain is and will remain president of PML.

He said this during his talks with a private T.V channel here Monday. He told that all the matters came under discussion in the meeting with the President.

President Musharraf urged the party leadership to shun their differences and get united for the sake of country and nation and coming elections, Sheikh Rashid stated.

It was also decided in the meeting that local bodies polls will be held in July as per schedule, he informed.

Responding to a question he said " I was present in the meeting between Chaudhry Shujaat and Mir Zafar Ullah Khan Jamali on the eve of valima function of son of Chaudhry Shujaat on Sunday in Gujrat. All the party matters were settled in the meeting, he remarked. Nothing was discussed on the internal differences of the party in the presence of General Musharraf in the meeting, as all the matters were already resolved, he pointed out.

President stressed that others opinion should be respected. The importance of all factions of PML be acknowledged and opinion of those who have joined Muslim League should be honoured, Information minister indicated.

About appointment of Mir Zafar Ullah Khan Jamali as vice president of PML , he said nothing was said about it. Chaudhry Shujaat however had reservation that media was attaching importance to un-necessary matters.

Regarding Interior minister Aftab Sherpao statement that PML should take along its coalition partners, he said that President Musharraf laid emphasis party should take along MQM and PPP (Regd) besides evolving a joint strategy with reference to local bodies' polls.

Information Minister said Pir Pagara is highly respectable leader and his case is bit different from others. However Pir Pagara has cent percent confidence on the President general Musharraf.

Commenting on the prevailing political scenario of the country he said political situation is very normal. Light music goes on and no hard song is blasted.

On confrontation between Sindh Chief Minister Arbab Rahim and Imtiaz Sheikh he said that Arbab will remain chief minister of Sindh and he will hold local bodies polls. " I hope he will also hold general elections -2007 in Sindh", Sheikh Rashid remarked.

Sherpao urges ruling PML to allay apprehensions of coalition partners

Aftab Ahmed Khan Sherpao, Interior Minister and president PPP has urged ruling PML to forge harmony with its coalition partners and convene a meeting to allay their apprehensions.

He said this while talking to the journalists after addressing a ceremony held here Monday on the eve of signing an agreement between civil defence and Beema company Pakistan on the establishment of Pakistan Fire Protection Academy.

Interior minister held that PML was striving to overcome its internal differences. However, it should also forge harmony with its coalition partners. Allied parties should develop consensus on all the issues. No meeting has so far occurred of allied parties. A meeting of coalition partners should be convened and their misperceptions be removed, he stressed. Otherwise these misconceptions may proliferate, he cautioned.

About reforms program in madaris he said it has not met failure. " We will work together with Madaris Islah Board and take forward reforms process", he added.

He went on to say that incident of killing of Hashim ul Yemeni has not occurred.

Government and PPP strongly condemn desecration of the Holy Quran by US troops in Guantanamo Bay, he stated.

He told that prisoners released from Guantanamo Bay prison facility are handed over to the provinces after interrogation. The last batch of these prisoners has been handed over to the provinces, he added.

"We can say nothing about India's involvement in setting ablaze Pakistan consulate in Jalal Abad and we demand of government of Afghanistan to ensure security of Pakistani consulates there", he remarked.

Earlier addressing the ceremony he hoped that relief work will gain momentum following the establishment of academy.
