ISLAMABAD: Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain was re-elected unopposed President of the Pakistan Muslim League-Q for the 3rd consecutive time and Mushahid Hussain as Secretary General for the 2nd time unopposed in the intra party elections held on Monday.

However, the dissident group boycotted the elections.

According to details, the meeting of the party general council was held at PML-Q office to elect its central leadership.

According to party election commission, nomination papers were received by 10am and nomination papers of only two candidates were submitted, one for Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain for the slot of president and the other for Mushahid Hussain as Secretary General.

Following the scrutiny of nomination papers, Party Chief Election Commissioner Kamil Ali Agha announced the election of Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain as President of the party for the 3rd consecutive time and Mushahid Hussain as Secretary General for the 2nd time unopposed as no other candidate filed papers against them.

The party general council meeting was attended by a total 1500 members, including 705 from Punjab, 300 from Sindh, 275 from NWFP, 115 from Balochistan, 55 from Islamabad, 35 from FANA and 12 from FATA.

Chief Election Commissioner, Kamil Ali Agha formally announced the election of Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain as Party President and Mushahid Hussain as Secretary General unopposed.

Provincial presidents of the party Chaudhry Pervez Elahi, Amir Muqam, Ghous Bux Mehar, Jam Yousuf, opposition leader in senate Wasim Sajjad, opposition leader in Punjab Assembly Chaudhry Zaheer-ud-Din, Sher Afgan Niazi, Naseer Khan, Sikandar Bosan, former federal and provincial ministers and MNAs and MPAs attended the meeting.

The dissident group of the Q-League headed by Hamid Nasir Chattha and Salim Saifullah boycotted the elections and none of its members attended the meeting.

Meanwhile Terming PML-Q elections as sham and bogus, PML-Q like Minded Group on Monday underlined that Q-league is not a property of any one/family adding Chaudhry Bothers have violated Constitution and norms of the party.

While giving their reaction over victory of Chaudhry Shujaat and others in the PML-Q elections, PML-Q senior leader Hamid Nasir Chatta termed the elections as unconstitutional adding it was not election rather Selection.

While talking to our sources, senator Salim Saifullah and Riaz Fatyana said that PML-Q is a national party and not a property of Chaudhry Brothers.

He said that we would not allow Q-League to be made Punjab League adding provinces were neglected adding all major ranks have been given to Punjab.

They said that elections would be challenge in the Election Commission of Pakistan tooth and nail.

Another Member of the Like Minded Group, vibrant and vivacious Kashmala Tariq was of the view that elections were mere joke with the party adding soon a party meeting will be summoned to talk on the unconstitutional polls on July 20 adding we need to solve the matter for party’s interest.
