Senate body for taking action against HC officials in Malaysia

ISLAMABAD, March 09(Online): The Senate Standing committee on Labour, manpower and Overseas Pakistanis (LMOP) has taken a strong note of the problems being faced by Pakistanis living in Malaysia and directed High Commissioner of Pakistan to Malaysia to take immediate steps for the redressal of Pakistani community.
The committee which met here under the chairmanship of Senator Naeem Hussain Chattah on Wednesday observed that overseas Pakistanis are a valuable asset of the country and called upon the M/O LMOP to ensure maximum facilities to them in the best national interests.
The committee made this observation while discussing the report of Pakistanis jailed in Malaysia.
DG Bureau of Immigration said that they received a complaint lodged by 13 workers against M/s S A International stating and that excessive fees have been charged by the Employer promoter from them. He said that M/s S A International denied the allegation of over charging for providing employment in Malaysia.
Senator Mrs Fauzia Fakhar uz Zaman who recently visited Malaysia apprised the committee about her meeting with Overseas Pakistanis there. She said that Pakistanis living in Malaysia are facing problems and High Commissioner and the community welfare were giving deaf ear to their problems.
The committee took a strong note of the arrogant attitude of Pakistani High Commissioner in Malaysia and Community Welafre Attaché and directed Ministeries of Foreign Affairs and Labour, Manpower and Overseas Pakistanis to take appropriate action against the High Commissioner and the CWA with a view to ensure the speedy redressal of the grievances of teeh Overseas Pakistanis.
Later, Senator S M Enver Baig Convenor of the sub committee submitted its report regarding OPF Housing Scheme, Islamabad. Senator Enver Baig highlighted the salient features of the report and suggested that the matter of OPF Housing Scheme, Islamabad should be referred to NAB for proper investigation and further action.
He said that no proper procedure was adopted for the purchase of land by OPF and that the payments made were more than th market rates.
The committee appreciated the work done by the sub-committee and decied to place the report before the House for consideration and appropriate action. The committee directed the OPF authorities to have a proper check on the activities of Overseas Employment Promoters and cancel the licenses of those violating the contract.
The meeting was attended by Senator Prof Mohammad Saeed Siddiqui, Mrs Fauzia Fakhar uz Zaman Khan, Mrs Nighat Mirza, Mohammad Enver Baig, Sahibzada Khalid Jan and Raza Mohammad Raza. Minister of State for Overseas Pakistanis Division and senior officer of the Ministry were also present on the occasion. End.
