Malaysia pledges aid for Pakistan
28 November, 2005
KUALA LUMPUR, November 28(Online): Malaysia has pledged to contribute at least $1.2 million toward reconstruction efforts in the earthquake-hit areas of Pakistan, news reports said Sunday.
The money will be used to build houses, schools and orphanages for the survivors of the Oct 8 devastating quake, Malaysia’s High Commissioner to Pakistan Hashim Hussein told The Star newspaper.
Malaysia’s efforts would focus on building about 300 new homes, Hashim said.
"Whatever construction that is being done now will be earthquake resistant, but we have to look for the proper place to build them," Hashim added.
"If possible we would like to begin work immediately before the winter sets in, but we have to be realistic, we still need supplies and manpower." End.
