ISLAMABAD: The 11th meeting of Pakistan-Malaysia Joint Committee on Defence Cooperation (JCDC) was held in Kuantan, Malaysia from September 9 to 12, 2013.

The Pakistani delegation was led by Secretary Defence, Lt. Gen (retd) Asif Yasin Malik while Dato' Sri Dr Haji Ismail bin Haji Ahmad, Secretary General, Ministry of Defence headed the Malaysian delegation.

Under the forum of JCDC, two parallel meetings; namely, Joint Sub Committee for Military Cooperation and Joint Sub Committee on Defence, Science and Technology and Industrial Cooperation respectively were also held, said a press release received here on Friday.

Both sides reviewed the progress in bilateral defence cooperation and agreed that there was further scope for its expansion in mutually identified fields and areas of interest.

Many new joint ventures were also discussed in this regard.

In his opening remarks, Lt. Gen (Retd) Asif Yasin Malik stated that Pakistan and Malaysia enjoyed close and cooperative relations at the international fora.

The cooperation between the armed forces of Malaysia and Pakistan is longstanding and entails exchanges, participation in exercises and training programmes, which are to the mutual advantage of both the sides.

During the visit Secretary Defence Pakistan called on Defence Minister, Malaysia YB Dato Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein at the Ministry of Defence Malaysia. During the audience, Secretary Defence Pakistan congratulated him on assuming the new office.

Secretary Defence Pakistan also supported the Malaysian stance on Saba incursion by Sulu infiltrators and extended offer to train the Malaysian Special Forces in counter terrorism.

Pakistani delegation stressed on issues of regional importance and the secretary highlighted the sacrifices of armed forces of Pakistan in the ongoing war against terror. He discussed the regional dynamics and the situation which will emerge in Post-2014 Afghanistan and the region.
