ISLAMABAD: Chairman, Higher Education Commission (HEC) Prof. Dr. Atta-ur-Rahman announced here Thursday that a very important project in the field of education that being started up now is the state of the art Pakistan-China University in Lahore.

The project is going to be a university of engineering, science and technology and is going to be established “Inshallah” in Lahore next to the German University which is also being set up there” he said while addressing the Pakistan Government Scholarship Programme function held in his hounour which was also attended by Vice-Minister Wu Qidi, high officials of Chinese Ministry of education, Pakistan Ambassador to China Salman Bashir and a large number of Pakistani students who came here for their PhD degree programmes.

Giving salient features of the Pakistan-China University, Dr. Atta said that the university will have the Chinese system of education. He said that the students passing out from the university will get degrees from the top Chinese universities.

This is the wonderful new initiative of Pakistan and we plan to send some 150 to 200 students every year additionally for PhD level. Dr. Atta informed the PhD students that Pakistan today offers very attractive salary to a professor that is six times equal to a federal minister.

He said that the reason behind offering such an attractive salaries is that we want to attract the brightest into the fields of education and research. He informed that now Pakistani students have access to some twenty-five thousand international journals, plus back volumes, and forty thousand textbooks, free of charge to every student in every university in Pakistan.

The students, he said have also access to lectures being delivered live and interactive session with professor and scientists from renowned universities in the world and added that two thousand such lectures have been lined-up.

He said that now we have our satellite through which we are also providing distance-learning education.
