Govt focusing on higher education to enable Pakistan to better compete in knowledge based world: PM

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz has said that the government is focusing on higher education to enable Pakistan to better compete in the knowledge based world. The Prime Minister was talking to the outgoing rector of National University of Science and Technology (NUST) Lt. General (Retd) Shujjat Hussain who paid him a farewell call at the Prime Minister's House here Monday. The Prime Minister said that NUST has played a major role in promoting higher education especially in the fields of science, technology, engineering, medicine, business and Information Technology. NUST has set high standards of academic excellence in education and has produced excellent professionals contributing towards various fields, the Prime Minister added. The Prime Minister said that Pakistan's youth is its biggest asset which can be further developed to its full potential through imparting quality education and there is a need to develop its education at all primary, secondary and higher levels to meet the future needs of the country in various fields. Lt. General Shujjat Hussain appreciated the support extended by the government to expand NUST and said that its new campus will augment the capacity of the University to increase its students' enrolment in various faculties to meet the needs of the future.
