KABUL: President General Pervez Musharraf and Afghan President Hamid Karzai held two one-on-one meetings here at Presidential Palace on Sunday.

The first meeting held before the concluding session of Pak-Afghan Joint Peace Jirga in which matters pertaining to Pak-Afghan relations, war against terror and issues related to Jirga were discussed.

During the first meeting, Afghan President Hamid Karzai briefed the President General Pervez Musharraf about his meeting with US President George W. Bush at Camp David and said US with collaboration of Pakistan and Afghanistan would continue its role for the elimination of terrorism and extremism, sources told Online.

On the occasion, President Gen. Pervez Musharraf said that Pak-Afghan peace Jirga would play vital role in the elimination of terrorism and restoration of peace.

He said Pakistan values its relation with Afghanistan, adding that relations between the two countries on different fields are enhancing day by day. However, it is vital that both the countries should avoid giving hostile statements against each other.

Expressing his views over situation of Pak-Afghan border, the President said Pakistan has taken unprecedented measures to stop illegal movement at border. All stakeholders have to work jointly for peace in Afghanistan because the elimination of terrorism and extremism is the responsibility of all, he maintained.

According to the sources, Presidents of both the countries agreed to boost relations and said elimination of terrorism is in best interest of both countries. Both countries would play their due role for the success of Jirga commission, they added.

The both leaders also met at Presidential Palace after concluding session of the Joint peace Jirga where they held talks on different issues relating to recommendations of Jirga, implementation on it and its result.

According to the sources, Afghan and Pakistani Presidents have agreed to maintain the Jirga Commission through a proper mechanism.The both leaders stressed the need to devise a well strategy for the implementation of decisions taken by members of Peace Jirga unanimously.

Presidents of both countries renewed their pledges to continue their support for Pak-Afghan Jirga Commission. Hamid Karzai also gave reception in the honour of President General Pervez Musharraf where both leaders unofficially also discussed various matters.

The observer, members of Pak-Afghan Peace Jirga, political parties of both countries declared the participation of President General Pervez Musharraf at the concluding session of the Jirga as great development.
