KARACHI: The Pakistan People's Party held solidarity rally on Wednesday for Palestinians outside the Karachi Press Club to protest against Israeli incursion in Gaza.

Sindh Human Rights department led by adviser to Chief Minister Sindh on Human Rights Nadia Gabol staged a similar protest simultaneously. The protesters were carrying the placards inscribed with slogans like 'Save Gaza, Save Humanity', 'Speak for Palestine', 'Palestinians we love you and we will never leave you'.PPP senior leader Senator Raza Rabbani said that Palestinians were once again being targeted with Israeli bombings.

"Killing of [more than] 200 people is a great tragedy, while those who claim to be the champions of human rights are silent spectators today," he said."It is sad that even imperialists like the United States are silent and not playing any role. More heartrending thing is the role of the Arab League and the OIC, as both are silent," he added.

Leaders of both sides restricted themselves to appear on TV and get pictured themselves and make appeals. If they cannot stop the massacre of Palestinians, there is no use of such organisations. There is no need of such organisations and should be eliminated, he lamented. You have got the power but you do not want the political use of it.

"Perhaps they know the consequence of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto who was martyred by US for supporting the Palestinian cause," said PPP Senator. He said Zulfiqar Bhutto established PPP's special relation with the people of Palestine. Ours is historical relationship with Palestinian people.

Shaheed Bhutto had lasting friendship with Palestine Liberation Organisation Chairman late Yasser Arafat. People still remembered the role of Yasir Arafat at the time of martyrdom of Bhutto. When Benazir Bhutto became the prime minister, Yasser Arafat specially visited Pakistan, added Rabbani. Every one in Pakistan is with the people of Palestine. I want to tell President Mahmoud Abbas we stood with the Palestine during the days of Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto and we are still standing by with them, said Rabbani.

Criticising the role of Prime Minister Nawaz, Rabbani said it was not enough for Nawaz Sharif giving mere statements. Role of Foreign Office and bureaucrats need to be active. Pakistan should play its role on diplomatic front so that this injustice could be halt, he said.

PPP Karachi division President Qadir Patel said Zulfikar Ali Bhutto never compromised on two-issue-Kashmir and Palestine. He said ironically in the presence of vibrant media around 200 Palestinians lost their lives on the false allegation cast by Israel. 'World media is not covering the tragedy of Palestine because it is being controlled by Jews, said Patel.

Criticising the central government, the PPP leader said, "Although government could notice the Imran Khan and Tahir-ul-Qadri but it cannot concentrate the Palestine issue. He said Palestine should be supported on 'front foot". Sindh Minister for Katchi Abadis and Special InitiativesJaved Nagori said we would not tolerate the cruelty on our Palestinians brothers. He said on the issue of Palestine, all political parties of the country should unite and protest together.

PPP leader Nadia Gabol said we have gathered here to raise our voice against the cruelty being done with the humans. We have not gathered here for any specific religion. We have assembled here for the humanity. This is a message for Palestinian women we are with them, she said.Gabol said in Palestine there was acute shortage of medicines and suggesting a relief fund should be established.

Rashid Rabbani said like Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and Benazir Bhutto, leadership of today's PPP including Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, Co-Chairman Asif Zardari and workers are with the people of Palestine. We salute the Palestinians for raising the slogan of Islam under such duress, he added.PPP leader Najmi Alam and others said party strongly condemned the massacre of Palestinians and demanded brutality with Palestinians should be halt at earliest.

During the demonstration, one-minute silence was observed to show the solidarity with the people of Palestine.Meanwhile, Hamas leader Dr Khalid Mehmood in a telephonic address said the people of Palestine saluted the emotions of Pakistan towards the people of Gaza.Hamas successfully confronted the Israeli aggression, he said, adding that the real faces of the United Nations (UN) and the West had been revealed.

Addressing the 'Solidarity Rally' to express unity with the people of Palestine organised by Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Karachi Hamas leader hoped the Muslims would not let the people of Palestine alone and play their due role in this regard. He vowed the Hamas would not spare its struggle against the evil.

Earlier, the protesters staged a demonstration at Prof Ghafoor Ahmed Road near Jauhar Morr against Israeli aggression. The volatile bombing of Israel was killing hundreds of people including women, children and elderly men.The participants of the protest were holding placards and banners inscribed with slogans like 'stop volatile bombing on Palestine', 'We strongly condemned the barbarism of Israel' and 'Stop violation of human rights in Palestine'. They chanted slogans against the western powers including America and Israel.

JI Pakistan chief Sirajul Haq said the rulers had forgotten the agenda of Islam. He asked Nawaz Sharif to lead the Muslim world, and urged the OIC to act against Israeli aggression.
