KARACHI: Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) chief Sirajul Haq said on Sunday that in spite of the Muslim world having a combined seven-million-strong army the Palestinians in Gaza are being murdered by the radical Jewish state of Israel with impunity.

Speaking at his party's "Gaza Million March", a mammoth gathering of people at Shahrah-e-Faisal, he said the international community fully understands that the Muslim Ummah wants the independence of Gaza. A large number of people took part in the massive public march from Baloch Colony to FTC to express solidarity with the besieged people of Gaza who have been facing continuous and indiscriminate aerial and land attacks by Israel for over a month now. The Jewish state has targeted schools, hospitals, homes, UN-run schools and ambulances carrying the wounded and dead.

People belonging to different walks of life, including women, children and elderly, participated in the rally holding the flags of Pakistan and Israeli-occupied Palestine. They chanted slogans against Israel and its staunchest and closest ally, the United States, and in favour of the people of Gaza. The US has backed the radical Jewish state throughout its latest war on Gaza. The participants raised placards and banners inscribed with "Get Free Gaza", "Down with Israel and USA" and "Labbaik ya Gaza".

Addressing the rally, the JI chief said that the people of Karachi are with the people of Gaza till the besieged Palestinian territory's independence. Sirajul Haq said that the JI will not accept the existence of Israel. "The JI has already sent funds of Rs 50million, convoy of paramedics and ambulance for the people of Gaza," he added. Siraj said that the JI wants electoral reforms and transparency in the electoral process. He termed the election in Karachi as a "selection" and plunder of public mandate.

He appealed to the Chief of Army Staff Gen Raheel Sharif to work for the safety of the ideology on which the country came into being. "I do not want imposition of martial law in the country, as the nation had already been witnessed it in the past," he added. He further said that both Nawaz Sharif and Imran Khan believe in the supremacy of constitution. Also speaking on the occasion, former JI chief Syed Munawar Hassan regretted that the rulers of 56 Muslim countries in the world have remained silent over Israeli aggression in Gaza.

"The government should play its role in fostering the emotion of jihad among the people," he said while demanding immediate cease-fire and lifting of siege of Gaza. Opposition leader in the National Assembly Khursheed Shah said that the "Gaza Million March" has proved that the Muslim Ummah is united against Israeli aggression in Gaza. He urged the present government to organise an OIC meeting for uniting the Muslim Ummah at a single platform. Qadir Patel, a PPP leader, congratulated the JI leadership for arranging such a huge rally in favour of the besieged people of Gaza.

Palestinian resistance group Hamas' leader Khalid Mashal addressed the gathering through telephone and lauded the people of Pakistan for expressing their solidarity with the people of Gaza. Addressing the rally, JI Karachi chief Hafiz Naeemur Rehman said the United States and Israel were Pakistan's enemies and people of Gaza are its friends. He thanked the leaders of different political parties, business community and people belonging to various spheres of life for attending "Gaza Million March". On the occasion, IJT Karachi nazim presented a cheque of Rs 0.5million to JI chief Sirajul Haq for the people of Gaza. Later, the participants set ablaze the flags of United States of America and Israel.

End.
