PML-N richest, PML-Z poorest political party

ISLAMABAD: In the assets detail issued by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Thursday, the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) is the richest party with assets worth Rs88.7 million, followed by the Pakistan People's Party Parliamentarians (PPPP) with assets of Rs190.17 million, while Jamaat-i-Islami (JI) owns Rs4.18 million.

The ruling PML-N is the richest political party, having assets worth Rs88.7 million while PML-Z is the poorest with its assets estimated at Rs30,000, as per the asset details of the parties released by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) in a booklet on Thursday.

Though, the ECP has record of as many as 240 parties, however, only 88 of them could file their statement of assets and liabilities and hence they qualify for issuance of election symbols.

There is a unique case at hand and that pertains to Ap Janab Sarkar Party, which owns assets worth Rs88,000. However, after paying rent and utility bills, it has a liability of Rs988.Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf and Pakistan Muslim League's related details could not be included in the booklet, as they submitted the statements after passage of several weeks, following the deadline.

The ruling PML-N spent Rs560 million on the May general election, followed by Pakistan People's Party Parliamentarians (PPPP), which doled out Rs230 million for the same purpose and remained runner up in the electoral race.Total income of the PML-N was Rs593.3 million in 2013 and besides spending Rs560 million on election campaign, refreshments cost it Rs3.8 million. Party workers donated Rs448.8 million and its bank balance presently is Rs61.2 million.

Estimated assets owned by PPPP are of Rs4.53 million and its annual income is Rs30.5 million while its bank balance is Rs190.17 million. The value of Muttahida Qaumi Movement's assets stands at Rs100 million, its bank balance is Rs76.2 million.

Awami National Party owns assets worth Rs20.8 million while Jamaat-e-Islami, which is billed as the leading party observing discipline, has assets worth Rs4.18 million. Maulana Fazlur Rehman's Jamiat Ulema Islam-Fazl has assets worth Rs1.12 million. Aftab Ahmad Khan Sherpao's Qaumi Watan Party owns assets worth Rs0.114 million.
