ISLAMABAD: National Assembly (NA) and the Senate kicking off the discussions here resounded with a demand from the Senate leader of the House, Mian Raza Rabbani for freezing the expenditures of the presidency, as he was highly critical of the budget provision for its enhancement.

NA leader of opposition, Pervaiz Ellahi starting the debate on the budget said that the poor couldn’t get that relief, which they should have got, while this budget was in negation of the basic manifesto of the People’s Party also. He said that the subsidy on wheat has been cut down to half in the budget, which would further hike up the price of flour for the poor.

Participating into the discussions, JUI chief Maulana Fazlur Rahman suggested setting up a National Commission for investigations into the privatization done in the past. He said that this should also be probed as to how a wheat crisis occurred in an agricultural country.

“Our western borders were being violated and protests were being lodged only in such cases when soldiers were martyred, while no protests were being made on the killings of the common men by declaring them terrorists,” he lamented.

Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM)’s Abdul Quadir Khanzada and Muslim League-N’s Ayaz Amir taking part in the budget discussions demanded harnessing all the resources for alleviating poverty and controlling high prices and giving all possible relief to the people.

End.
