Budget disorderly, misleading like lack luster performance of coalition Govt: Elahi
14 June, 2009
ISLAMABAD: PML-Q central leader Chaudhry Pervez Elahi has said like the disappointing performance of PPP led ruling coalition, the budget 2009-10 is disorderly and misleading document which is not in any way in conformity with the ongoing political and economic situation in the country.
He said this while commenting on the budget for the fiscal 2009-10 here Saturday. He observed budget document had been evolved without any policy and vision. Even the opinion of coalition partners had not been made part of the budget, he charged.
The whole country was demanding "roti, kapra and makan" and on the other hand government was bent on meeting the target of revenue collection through bulk of taxes and domestic and foreign loans, he regretted. Volume of foreign debts had swelled to beyond $50 billion, he added.
No effective step had been taken to plug the rampant inflation and unemployment, he noted. Only 15 percent interim relief allowance had been announced for government employees in the budget while government had acknowledged through its statistics that inflation had surged by 33.2 percent, he added.
Two fold increase in capital value tax on property in the budget would lead the real state business to further plunge, he cautioned.
Benazir tractor scheme carried no motive other than one that federal government would favor its "blue eyed favorites" through this scheme, he alleged.
End.
