KABUL: A district governor in southern Kandahar province resigned citing a lack of attention from the Kandahar provincial government in addressing problems in the district.

Dand governor Hamdullah Nazek claimed that there was too few government departments active in the district despite his request for more assistance.

"I announce my resignation via the media. There are lots of challenges in front of my work, but no one cares about these challenges," he said.

But provincial officials said Nazek had personal problems that was making the role difficult for him.

"Many projects have been allocated to Dand district over other districts," provincial spokesman Jawed Faisal said.

"Personal problems is the reason for his resignation and we request he stay in his position until we find a workable person for the position."

Nazek said that he had been angered over problems such as no specified border for his jurisdiction, failure to pay the salary for district staff, and the lack of government departments.

He admitted that there had been some developments in the district, but he claimed it was very little.

Dand is 70KM from the provincial capital Kandahar city.

End.
