ISLAMABAD, March 10(Online): Advisor to Prime Minister on Women Development, Nilofar Bakhtiar has said that the government is determined to improve the industrial development of women.
This she stated while addressing a function here organized by ILO on the occasion of International Women Day (IWD) Thursday. She said that efforts are being made to teach different skills to affected women which would helpful them to find employment and unable them to live independently.
She informed that for this purpose Vocational Center has been established with the cooperation of ILO in Balakot while the government has also established vocational centers in Hazara and Islamabad. She said that some space has been reserved for women in Industrial Center in Karachi where they can exhibit their products, adding that the government is making all out efforts to make sure the access of these products to market easily.
Advisor to Prime Minister on Women Development said that the government is planning to open training centers to make women skillful and initially Chitral, Tharparkar, Gawadar and Sheikupura has been selected for this purpose. She said that the government has started a reform programme to treat women equally and 700 million rupees has been provided from the government for this purpose, adding that 10% quota has also been reserved for women. Nilofar Bakhtiar said that 33% seats have been reserved for women in local government, adding that 21st century is the century for women.
The country director of ILO, Mr. Donglin Li on the occasion said that IWD is being observed to acknowledge the abilities of women and efforts should be made collectively to improve the standard of lives for women.
The country director of ILO said that we have decided to pay special attention on women affected by earthquake and focus would be to improve industrial condition of women. The country director further said that we want to make sure the participation of women in the reconstruction and rehabilitation efforts.
