Aurakzi appreciates role of NGOs’ for children, women betterment in NWFP

PESHAWAR: A ten members delegation comprising office bearers of various non-governmental welfare organizations, especially engaged in the well being of children and women both in the province as well as FATA called on the NWFP Governor, Lt. Gen. (R) Ali Muhammad Jan Aurakzai at Governor's House here on Wednesday. The delegation, which was led by Ms Rakhshanda Naz, Chairperson of Aurat Foundation especially, apprised the Governor about the salient features of the working of their respective organizations and pin pointed certain difficulties in this respect. They, however, also put forward certain suggestions to help in making the efforts of the government aimed at improving the socio-economic well being of the people, more effective and result oriented with special reference to ensuring active role of the non-governmental public welfare organizations. Speaking on the occasion, the Governor appreciated the working of the non-governmental public welfare organizations and stressed the need of their more effective and close coordination with the respective government departments and institutions. In fact, he said, their role is proving quite beneficial in the efforts of the government, which are being made to improve the quality of life of the people. Responding to various points raised on this occasion, the Governor assured to extend due help to ensure smooth atmosphere for working of non-governmental welfare organizations. He particularly referred to FATA, and said that concrete steps would be taken to develop proper mechanism for ensuring coordination between the nation building departments and the non-government organizations in FATA. Referring to various proposals, the Governor also assured to extend due support to the efforts to be made for ensuring public participation in the development activities through the non-government organizations.
