ISLAMABAD, March 09(Online): International Women’s day observed across the world including Pakistan on Wednesday.
Seminars, functions, walks and other programmes held in federal capital and other cities to throw lights on problems confronted by women.
In Islamabad, a walk was held from China Chowk to Parade Avenue to mark International Women’s Day.
Minister of state for Information Anisa Zaib Tahirkhili, Senator Tahira Latif, Rozina Alem, Bushra Sipra, Donia Aziz, federal parliamentary secretary Anaza Ehsan, Dr Furdos Ashaq Awan and people belonging different walks of life participated in the Walk.
Speaking on the occasion, Prime Minister Advisor on women development Nilofer Bakhtiar said that government was using all resources for the progress of women.
She noted that country could not progress unless women participate in all sections adding, women will be provided equal opportunities to work in all sections.
Ms Bakhtiar said that the government was taking steps in accordance with comprehensive policy so that women could play their role for country’s development.
She observed that government was also seriously reviewing to abolish laws against women rights
Ms Bakhtiar said that Ministry for Women Development would launch special train with skillful and hard worker women on board from NWFP to Karachi.
Meanwhile, talking to reporters, Minister of state for Information Anisa Zaib Tahirkhili said that government was taking number of steps to give women their rights.
She said that steps was also being taken to ensure the implementation of Tameer-e-Watan program for women.
Ms Tahirkhili noted that different laws were also being amended for women development.
She went on to say that government was also seriously mulling to resolve the serious issue of Hudood Ordinance.
The Minister said over 4,000 women were in jails in different cases and the special team were also being formed in this respect.
