ICJ summons India over Kishan Ganga dispute

ISLAMABAD: N.A standing committee for water and power has been informed that the International Court of Justice (ICJ) had summoned India over Kishan Ganga dispute between Pakistan and India .
The meeting of committee, chaired by Syed Ghulam Mustafa, and also participated by officials of QESCO and PESCO on Tuesday was informed that, however ICJ had rejected Pakistan's request for stay on the issue.
It was also informed that after India's reply over the issue, the verdict over this case filed by Pakistan would be released by ICJ.
During the meeting the additional secretary of ministry of water and power, requested that since CEO of alternate energy Board was abroad, matters/ agenda pertaining to department should be deferred. Expressing his severe reservations of this absence, the chairman warned that no such excuse would ever be entertained in future.
Meanwhile briefing the committee, the CE of PESCO (Peshawar Electric Supply Company) informed of great difficulties in recovery of outstandings, due to lawless in Balochistan, and requested security blanket by FC troops.
Among other issues the committee was also informed that the issue of increasing electricity tariff by 4% was under review, while PESCO losses amounted to 37%, with thefts in border towns of Hangu and Tank amounting to 55%.
Outstandings for PEPCO amounted to Rs.297 billion, out of which KESC alone owed Rs 40 billion.
