Govt will stop flour smuggling to Afghanistan, says Jatak
23 January, 2009
QUETTA: Balochistan Food Minister Ali Madad Jatak said on Thursday that the government had controlled 90 per cent illegal flour smuggling to Afghanistan and efforts were under way to end completely the flour smuggling. “Balochistan shares 750 kilometre-long border with Afghanistan and it is impossible to end 100 per cent flour smuggling, but the government is making efforts to reduce it,” he told APP. He said that the government had entered into an agreement with Afghan President Hamid Karzai under which 52,000 tons of flour were transported to Afghanistan legally. He said there was no flour crisis in Balochistan and the Punjab government would provide 50,000 tons of flour within the next few days. He claimed that Nawab Muhammad Akbar Khan Bugti was a patriot and not anti-Pakistan but the “dictator assassinated him due to his ego”. He said the Baloch were demanding their socio-economic and political rights. End.
