ISLAMABAD: Interior Minister Rehman Malik on Tuesday said the government had top most responsibility to ensure protection to the lives and property of all people and that all efforts would be made for their security.

Talking to media during his visit to the Police Line Headquarters, the minister said all mobile services were suspended for few hours because there had been reports regarding a possible attack on Eid.

Regarding the issue of prepaid SIMs issued on fake documents, being used in terrorist attacks, Malik assured to consult all authorities concerned to immediately regularise such prepaid SIMs to foil nefarious designs of terrorist elements.

The minister said that such mobile SIMs were also used in 'extortion activities' and blocking of such needless prepaid SIMs was being considered in various phases.

"The final decision, however, would be made after consultation with all stakeholders and experts," he said.

Commenting on the Kamra airbase attack, Malik said law enforcement agencies and Punjab Police were investigating the matter.

The minister appreciated the performance of Islamabad police on the occasion and acknowledged the sacrifices of their officers for better future of the nation.

Malik assured to increase the strength of the Islamabad police and said that recruitments would soon be made. He said work on a housing society would also be started.

He paid tribute to the National Police Martyrs' Monument at the Police Line Headquarters and prayed for them.

High officials of Islamabad police were also present on the occasion.

End.
