ISLAMABAD: President General Pervez Musharraf has said defeat and victory are part of game adding one may not lose heart after suffering defeat.
"Success and failure are part of game in competition. However, one should not be disappointed after losing the game and rather step in play ground with full preparations in future", he said this while addressing inauguration ceremony of All Pakistan Bridge Tournament organized by Pakistan Bridge Federation here Sunday.
Secretary national security council Tariq Aziz, sports minister Mian Shamim Haider, president Pakistan Bridge Federation Reehana Sehgal and the players attended the ceremony.
President Musharraf held that bringing improvement in the standard and infrastructure of sports is top priority of the government. Government is taking steps for promotion of sports on priority basis.
He held out assurance that government will extend every possible cooperation to Bridge Federation to popularize game of bridge like other games.
Paying tributes to Bridge legend Zia Mehmood for the commendable services rendered by him President said Zia Mehmood had kept the flag aloft in the international competitions of Bridge. He deserves for congratulations in this respect, President added.
Bridge is a recreational game. I had been playing this game in the past", he remarked.
President appreciated the performance of winning as well as participating teams in 3-day Bridge tournament.
Speaking on the occasion earlier, NSC secretary Tariq Aziz said Bridge federation is taking measures for promotion of Bridge in the country. It needs government patronage for its further promotion, he added.
130 players of 25 leading teams participated in the tournament from across the country.
Data Steel team bagged first position due to excellent performance in the tournament. President presented cheque of Rs 3 Lakh as prize to the team.
AIMS, Candy Land and Tariq AIMS teams secured second, third and fourth positions in the tournament.
