Board stops censoring Indian, English movies: chairman Arshad

ISLAMABAD: Central Films Censor Board (CFCB) Chairman Syed Arshad Ali has said that after a Lahore High Court (LHC) stay order, the Board has stopped the work of censoring all the Indian and English movies and has left to the court to decide further in this regard.
Talking to our sources, the CFCB chairman said that the Board would start work if the court rules so. He will present the stance of the Government of Pakistan in the LHC on December 2, he said.
He clarified that the organisation does not censor any illegal or smuggled films. He added that the Indian films reach Pakistan through a formal procedure, for which the Commerce Ministry issues an import licence. After this, Customs' authorities, under the bill of entry, hand them over to the owner after receiving the duty on it, he observed.
It merits noting here that the importer and the film producer formally sign an agreement called 'Agreement between two parties'. Besides, a certificate of origin is also to be presented, completing which formalities and documents, the CFCB recommends either to show the movie or not, he added saying that then the Board chairman takes the final decision on recommendations of the Board.
It is pertinent to mention here that the CFCB, before the court-ruling, the Board censored the last Indian movie on November 19 while the court issued the relevant order on November 21. The Board received the court order in written form on November 25.
