BA wants province's coast renamed as Bahr-e-Baloch

QUETTA: The Balochistan Assembly on Monday passed resolutions on domicile, renaming of the province's coastal belt, importance of polio drive and provision of natural gas.
The resolutions were passed in the assembly session held under the chair of Speaker Mir Jan Muhammad Jamali. Provincial Minister Nawab Muhammad Khan Shahwani and MPAs Rahmat Ali Blaoch, Mir Khalid Langov and Handeri Baloch moved a resolution that demanded the provincial government make computerised birth certificate mandatory for getting local certificate and domicile. They said that some people belonging to other provinces have been getting local certificates and domiciles of Balochistan in order to get government jobs, thus exploiting the right of the local people.
Another resolution, tabled by Provincial Minister Nawab Muhammad Khan Shahwani and MPAs Rahmat Ali Baloch, Mir Khalid Langov, Mir Mujibur Rehman and Hainderi Baloch demanded the provincial government rename the coastal belt of Balochistan as Bahr-e-Baloch. In their speeches, they contended that Balochistan has a 1000-kilometre long coast that was named Bahr-e-Arab. They said that this coast was called Bahr-e-Baloch before the Christ, therefore, keeping in view the historical background, it should be renamed Bahr-e-Baloch.
Another resolution was presented in the House on the importance of polio drive. It was moved by Provincial Minister Nawab Muhammad Khan Shahwani and MPAs Rahmat Ali Baloch, Nasrullah Khan Zeeray, Dr Hamid Achakzai, Hainderi Baloch, Rahila Hamid Durrani and Yasmin Lehri. The resolution reads that the provincial government should ensure polio day in all schools as this was the only way to save human lives from the fatal disease. The resolution also emphasised the need for issuance of polio campaign card.
National Party MPA Dr Shama Ishaq said that several children were vulnerable to the deadly disease as they could not be administered anti-polio drops. Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party's Nasrullah Zeeray said that except three countries – Pakistan, Afghanistan and Nigeria – polio has been eradicated from rest of the world. Pakistan Muslim League-Q MPA Abdul Karim Nosherwani underlined the need to take practical steps for eradication of polio from Balochistan instead of "photo sessions" only.
National Party MPA Rahmat Baloch stressed the need for declaring anti-polio vaccination in schools compulsory. Meanwhile, Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl's Shahida Rauf said that polio teams could not reach several areas of Balochistan, therefore a number of children were still deprived of the vaccination. The speaker put all the resolutions to the House, which passed them unanimously. PkMAP MPA Obaidullah Babat moved the adjournment motion against alleged misbehaviour of staff of Agriculture Bank with peasants. The motion was approved by the House for debate on October 9, when the assembly meets again.
