8 Pakistanis freed from Bagram, Gitmo

ISLAMABAD: Eight Pakistanis were released from Guantanamo Bay and Bagram airbase, the US detention centres on Monday and were flown to Islamabad through a special plane. They were handed over to the law enforcement agencies personnel. Two of them were freed from Guantanamo Bay, Cuba while six from Bagram airbase in Afghanistan. Now only 19 Pakistanis are imprisoned in the two detention centres under US custody. Brig. Javed Iqbal Cheema, Chief of the National Crisis Management Cell (NCMC) while talking to Online said all of them were in good health. He said they would undergo medical checkup and debriefing and the whole process would take about ten days. He said that only 5 Pakistanis are imprisoned at Guantanamo Bay and 14 at Bagram airbase and the government was striving for their release. Brig.Cheema said that Interior Minister Aftab Ahmad Khan Sherpao had played vital role in the release of Pakistanis from US detention centres. While a team he said was sent to Bagram and Guantanamo Bay who held successful talks with US officials for the release of the Pakistani inmates. He said they had been in US custody after the 9/11 incident. He said they were freed after no charge was proved against them.
