NEW DELHI: Toshiba Singapore Pvt Ltd, the South and East Asia division of Japan's Toshiba Corp aims to become the second-biggest seller of laptop computers in India by March 2007, a company official said on Wednesday. The company plans to catch up on market leaders Lenovo and Hewlett Packard Co by doubling sales outlets to around 200, mostly in larger cities, Ivan Kam, South Asia distribution manager, told reporters. The company is spending about $1 million on television, print and billboard advertising as it aims to increase its current 9.5 percent share of the $1 billion market to 15 percent. It expects to sell 150,000 laptops in the year to March. "We need to try to end the myth that Toshiba is a more expensive computer," Kam said. Toshiba laptop prices range from 30,990 to 170,000 rupees. Courtesy: Reuters, 2006.
