ISLAMABAD: Secretary National Security Council Tariq Aziz said safeguarding national interests was government`s top priority in the war against terrorism and we will not compromise on it at any cost.

He expressed these views while talking to Foreign Office Special Representative and Former Ambassador Afghanistan Ronald E Neumann here on Wednesday.

Sources in the Council revealed that earlier, Tariq Mehmood had briefed the American representative about the steps taken by Pakistan for its integrity and solidarity.

Though, Pakistan has been a close ally of America in global war on terror, but safeguarding national interests is our top priority, he said.

Regarding peace and security in Afghanistan, he said that Pakistan is completely fulfilling all its responsibilities and the other parties should also fulfill their responsibilities in this connection.

Strong, peaceful and stable Afghanistan is in the interest of Pakistan i.e why we have made extraordinary security arrangements at the Pak-Afghan border to stop unnecessary movement of the miscreants.

The American Representative appreciated the role of Pakistan in war against terrorism and also condemned the Peshawar blast.

End.
