Religious seminary torched in Nuristan

ASADABAD: The armed opponents allegedly set on fire a religious seminary in Want Waigal district in Nuristan province last night, an official said Sunday.
The Nuristan police chief, Ghulamullah told AIP the armed opponents torched a religious seminary in Want Waigal district last night.
Religious books, including copies of the Holy Quran were also burnt in the fire, he added.
"We are sure the Taliban have torched the seminary. The district is under complete control of Taliban for the last few years. The Taliban have influence in the area where the seminary was set on fire," he said.
The area residents said the seminary was constructed by the Government of Germany about 17 years ago.
They maintained the equipment of the seminary had already been stolen, and that all the remaining stuff of the facility was razed to ashes in the fire.
The Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid, when contacted by the AIP, said they were not involved in the incident.
"We have received reports about torching of a religious seminary. We are investigating the incident. The Taliban never torch schools and religious seminaries. Taliban are not involved in the incident in Want Waigal. Our investigation will reveal whether it's a natural incident or it has been done by intelligence agencies to defame the Taliban," he added.
