Srinagar: : In occupied Kashmir, the leaders and activists of the forum led by the veteran Hurriyet leader, Syed Ali Gilani, staged a demonstration in Srinagar against the continued house arrest of the veteran leader.

Eyewitnesses said that scores of leaders and activists led by Mehrajuddin and Syed Imtiyaz Haider gathered outside Masjid Hamza at Amira Kadal in Srinagar and denounced the continued house detention of Syed Ali Gilani, terming it violation of his democratic and basic rights. Raising pro-freedom slogans, they demanded his immediate release. They said that the puppet authorities were deliberately complicating the situation by not providing political space to the octogenarian leader.

Later, the activists tried to take out a march towards Lal Chowk, however, Indian police sealed the exit points after which they dispersed peacefully.

It is to mention here that the Syed Ali Gilani was scheduled to deliver a lecture at Masjid Hamza on present political situation in the territory. However, he could not do so due to his continued house arrest since Wednesday 31 December 2014.
