Peshawar on hit list of terrorists, says IG KP

PESHAWAR: Inspector General Police, Khyber Pakhtonkhwa, Nasir Durrani has said that Peshawar will be the most sensitive city in days to come.

He disclosed that nine groups were involved in terrorism activities in the province.

IG KP said 144 terrorists were apprehended and 25 other killed in raids and operations by law enforcement agencies in KP. He told that Mardan, Swabi, Hangu and Kohat areas were the most sensitive districts.

Durrani added that Peshawar was the most sensitive and on a hit list of terrorists.

AJK by-polls: PPP stages walkout from Senate over alleged rigging

ISLAMABAD: Opposition PPP staged a walkout in Senate on Tuesday, accusing the federal government of carrying out rigging in by-election held in Azad Kashmir.

Speaking in the Upper House, Senator Aitezaz Ahsan accused the federal government of being involved in the rigging in AJK's by-polls.

He shared a picture of PML-N's Kashmir President Raja Farooq Haider who was seen carrying a Kalashnikov.

He said that the sitting government was paying no attention to the Senate. The session was later adjourned till Thursday.

The Senate was informed on Tuesday that 22 projects of national highways and motorways will be completed in near future.

Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Shaikh Aftab Ahmad told the House during question hour that Asian Development Bank will provide funds for these projects besides the federal government.

To a question‚ Minister for Ports and Shipping Kamran Michael told the House that a number of facilities are being provided to international shipping lines and other concerned companies by Port Qasim Authority.

The house was also informed that a number of new varieties of major crops have been developed during the last two years.

Minister of State for Education Balighur Rehman said the process of selection of Chairman Higher Education Commission (HEC) has been completed.

Members belonging to Pakistan Peoples Party staged a walkout from the House as a protest over alleged rigging in Azad Kashmir by-election in LA-22.

Later‚ the House was adjourned due to lack of quorum.

The House will now meet on Thursday at 10.30 am.
