Pakistan on Sunday released another batch of 100 Indian fishermen from Malir Jail in Karachi as a goodwill gesture. The fishermen were arrested for fishing illegally in the Pakistani waters during various operations. After their release, the fishermen boarded a train for Lahore where they will be handed over to the Indian authorities at Wagah border crossing on Monday (today).

The first batch of 100 fishermen crossed Wagah on April 8, days after Pakistan announced to release 360 Indian prisoners detained for fishing illegally in the country’s territorial waters in the Arabian Sea.

Providing details regarding the release, the FO spokesperson had said that Pakistan would be releasing 360 Indian prisoners, of which 355 were fishermen and five civilians. “In the first phase on April 8, 100 prisoners will be released. In the second phase on April 15, another 100 will be released. In the third phase on April 22, yet another 100 will be released. In the fourth and last phase on April 29, the remaining 60 prisoners will be released,” he had told a media briefing in Islamabad.
