BRUSSELS: Former Prime Minister and opposition leader in the Legislative Assembly, Barrister Sultan Mahmood called on member European Parliament, Emma Nicholson and discussed with her the controversial report on Kashmir.
The meeting between them took place prior to the debate of foreign relation committee on the Kashmir report in the EU parliament here the other day. Sultan said that Nicholson had pleaded for delaying polling on her report for a month.
Barrister Sultan in his meeting with Nicholson told the latter that the Kashmiris had fought a long struggle and they would never compromise on any option other than right of self-determination. "It is our basic stance that the Kashmir issue be resolved in line with the aspiration of Kashmiri people and in compliance with the UN resolutions," he added.
He said that the Kashmiris welcomed the EU offer of playing the role of arbitrator for the just and honorable solution of Kashmir issue that could bring an end to the ongoing tussle between the two nuclear powers and massacres of Kashmiris. He said that India had usurped the rights of Kashmiris by occupying their land.
He urged the international community to play its role for the solution of Kashmir issue and to press India to avoid human rights violation in the Held Valley.
Barrister Sultan invited Emma Nicholson to visit Azad Kashmir and recompile the report and ensured his full support in this connection.
