ISLAMABAD: Interior Minister Rehman Malik said on Sunday the Bhoja Air was issued a licence to operate flights during the government of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz.

Talking to media, Malik said the airline was first permitted to operate flights in the country in 1992. He said the names of six owners of Bhoja Air have been placed on the Exit Control List. One of the owners, Farooq Bhoja, has been detained for investigations and a joint FIA-police team is conducting investigations, he added.

Malik said Farooq Bhoja holds only five percent shares of the airline. It would be investigated who gave permission for such an old aircraft to fly, he added. The minister said a message has been sent to one of the partners in Bhoja Air, Jalil, and his wife, to return to country.

He said that a judicial commission would investigate the incident from every angle, and the plane's voice box would provide important information. He said that cases would be registered against those who stole jewellery and other things, belonging to the passengers, from the crash site.

End.
