Kuwaiti emir exhorts investors to re-route investments to Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: Shaikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jabir Al-Sabah, the Emir of Kuwait has exhorted the investors the world over to re-route their investments to Pakistan and other Asian countries and observed that the opening of economy by Pakistan for investment was in the interest of both Pakistan as well as the investing country.
Shaikh Sabah made this observation while talking to a Senate delegation led by Chairman Senate, Mr. Mohammedmian Soomro which called on him here today. Senator Mushahid Hussain Sayed, Chairman Senate Foreign Relations Committee, Senator Mohammad Enver Beg, Senator Talha Mahmood and Secretary Senate were also present. The Kuwaiti Emir informed the Senate Chairman that 150,000 Pakistanis were presently engaged in the developmental activities in Kuwait. He said that Kuwait would welcome more skilled, educated and honest labour force from Pakistan to boost its developmental activities.
Shaikh Sabah underlined the need for wider cooperation between the Muslim countries and said that it was the mission of Kuwaiti Government to project the true image of Islam in the west as a moderate and peace loving religion. Shaikh Sabah thanked the Government and the people of Pakistan for extending unflinching support to their Kuwaiti brothers during Iraqi invasion. He invited the Senate Chairman to visit Kuwait at the head of a Parliamentary team.
Earlier, welcoming the distinguished guests, the Senate Chairman, said Pakistan attaches great importance to its ties with brotherly Islamic country Kuwait and was keen to further strengthen these relations. Mr. Soomro pointed out that there existed multi faceted relationship between the two brotherly countries and that there was vast scope to improve these ties. The Senate Chairman expressed the view that exchange of Parliamentary delegations between the two countries would pave the way for giving a boost to the brotherly ties between Pakistan & Kuwait.
Senator Mushahid Hussain Sayed complimented the Kuwaiti leadership for pursuing liberal, moderate and democratic policies and observed that Kuwait was a role model for other Islamic countries. He pointed out that President Musharraf had floated the concept of enlightened moderation to project the true image of Islam. He said that it was heartening to note that Kuwait was working for promoting it in the west. Senator Enver Beg thanked the Kuwaiti Government for giving compensation to thousands of Pakistanis who suffered during Iraq war.
He suggested that more Pakistanis should be employed by Kuwaiti Government for giving a boost to its developmental activities. Senator Talha Mahmood thanked Shaikh Sabah’ for extending generous support to the earthquake victims of NWFP & AJK.
