IAEA has posed confidence in Pakistan's N-arsenal safety: FO

ISLAMABAD: The Foreign Office has said that the IAEA head has expressed confidence in the measures adopted by Pakistan for safety of its nuclear arsenal.
Speaking at weekly Foreign Office press briefing here on Thursday Spokesperson Tasnim Aslam said that IAEA chief is on a visit to the country and he has visited the Chashma nuclear plant and expressed confidence in the safety of country's nuclear assets. She said that Pakistan's civil nuclear program is being run under the rules and regulations of IAEA.
The spokesperson said that there is no scheduled meeting between Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and the US President Barrack Obama in the Hague, however both can meet on the sidelines of the International Nuclear Security Summit 2014. She further said that UK has invited PM to visit however no dates have yet been finalized. The spokesperson said that Pakistan has said unlike the perception, most of children in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and FATA areas have been inoculated against Polio.
She said federal and provincial governments are determined to eradicate polio from the country. She said immunization of children against polio relates Pakistan's future. She said Pakistan is well-aware of World Health Organization's concerns and recently in her visit to Pakistan, the head of WHO held very constructive meetings regarding the issue. She said despite the security concerns, WHO is keen to help Pakistan in overcoming the problem.
FO spokesman said a decree issued at a conference in Jeddah attended by Ulemas from across the world declared Polio vaccine as Halal and legitimate. She said polio vaccine being used in Pakistan is procured from Indonesia, a Muslim country, Indonesia. Replying to a question, she said after GSP Plus status, there have been positive trends about our trade relations with European Union.
Regarding EU Ambassador's comments, Tasnim Aslam said Pakistan expects from diplomatic community including him to abide by the norms of internationally recognized diplomatic behavior, and not to comment on our internal matters. She said Pakistan is implementing twenty-seven international conventions to inculcate a culture of respect for human rights.
The Spokesperson said that Pakistan enjoys good relations with all GCC countries and the developments between Saudi Arabia and Qatar are their internal matter. Regarding granting India MFN status she said that talks are still in process adding that the impression that Foreign Office is a hurdle in Pak-India relations is incorrect.
