Govt responsible for protecting integrity and respect of the armed forces: Nawaz Sharif
03 May, 2015
ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said on Saturday that the government was responsible for protecting the integrity and respect of the armed forces, as they were responsible for the country’s defence and security.
The prime minister, in a statement, said the apology tendered by Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) chief Altaf Hussain was a good step. He, however, added that the matter pertaining to the country’s security and national interests was extremely sensitive and one should be careful while saying something on the subject.
Such irresponsible statements, he said, not only hurt the integrity of the national institutions but also the public’s feelings and sentiments. The prime minister also urged the media to fully adhere to the code of conduct in accordance with the constitution and law, and ensure that no irresponsible statement or anyone speaking against the national interest was promoted. Meanwhile, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Irfan Siddiqui said in a news conference on Saturday that Altaf’s apology did not clear the matter of him defaming the institutions of national security.
Altaf Hussain while commenting on the Pakistan Army and security forces of Pakistan said that they are acting against Pakistan and taking illegal actions in Karachi.
Irfan Siddiqui said only asking for an apology does not resolve the matter, as it is a matter of “our national integrity, and Altaf uttered defamatory statements against the most sovereign institutes of Pakistan”.
In the follow up of these statements by Altaf, a condemnation resolution was presented in both Balochistan Assembly and Sindh Assembly against the MQM chief, Altaf Hussain.
