FAISALABAD: Funeral prayers were offered for Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) activist Haq Nawaz in Faisalabad on Tuesday.

Nawaz, 22, died of bullet injuries sustained during a clash with police and Pakistan Muslim League - Nawaz (PML-N) supporters a day before.

After the unfortunate death of the 22-year-old PTI activist, the party had called for protests and announced a day of mourning across the country.

MPA Arif Abbasi said that PTI will block I.J. Principal Road near Khayaban-i-Sir Syed today to protest the death of its worker.

PTI workers and supporters will gather at Sadiqabad after Zohr prayer and will take out a rally on I.J. Principal Road, Abbasi said.

Moreover, the Pakistan Awami Tehreek, led by Dr Tahirul Qadri, and Majlis-i-Wahdatul Muslimeen have also announced to join PTI's mourning day (Youm-i-Sog) protest.

Following the death of Nawaz, charged PTI workers had blocked Faisalabad's Aabpara Chowk and other major highways in parts of Punjab. In Karachi, the party workers had blocked Sharah-i-Faisal, a main artery connecting and leading to different areas of the city, during peak traffic hours.

The PTI had given a call to shut down businesses and transport of Faisalabad — Pakistan's third largest city in terms of GDP growth — on Dec 8 as part of its plan to put pressure on the ruling government to carry out a vote recount for the May 2013 general election.

PTI Chairman Imran Khan has time and again accused the PML-N for its alleged involvement in rigging the previous year's general elections.
