Fazl calls upon general Musharraf to withdraw from presidential election

LAHORE: MMA central leader Maulana Fazlur Rehman has demanded of general Pervez Musharraf to withdraw from the presidential election otherwise the country will land in crisis. He said this while talking to Maulana Muhammad Amjad Khan, Haji Abdul Jalil Jan, Abdul Razzaq Lakhoo, Mufti Ibrar and others here Sunday. He held religious parties are servants rather than champions of Islam. " We will discharge this obligation till our last breath. Religious parties are championing the cause of thwarting all conspiracies being hatched against Islam and the country. He alleged General Musharraf is violating the constitution by canvassing in support of PML-Q. Aiwan-e-Sadar in fact has been turned into election cell. He was of the view president Musharraf could not seek vote for presidential election from the sitting assemblies. He underlined 2007 is year for general elections and not year for presidential elections. JUI will not boycott general elections, he said adding it will participate in the elections on MMA platform. It will defeat the elements in the general elections who are working on foreign agenda, he underlined.
