ISLAMABAD: Mamnoon Hussain took oath as the 12th President of the country at a ceremony at Aiwan-e-Sadr‚ Islamabad, on Monday afternoon. Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry administered the oath to him.

The ceremony was attended by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif‚ former President Asif Ali Zardari‚ members of the federal cabinet‚ services chiefs‚ parliamentarians‚ politicians‚ diplomats and senior officials.

Mamnoon Hussain was elected with an overwhelming majority in the July 30th Presidential elections as PML-N nominee.

In a media interview before taking oath of his office‚ President Mamnoon Hussain said that he would pursue the constitution in latter and spirit to maintain good friendly relations between the federation and the provinces.

He said that law and order in the country‚ particularly in Karachi‚ is a major challenge for the government. However‚ he expressed the confidence that the government will succeed to cope with the issue and bring peace to the country‚ as it is vital for socio-economic development.

On Balochistan‚ the president said it is good omen that nationalist parties are not only in the provincial assembly but are heading the government in the province. He hoped that it will help resolve the issues in Balochistan.

He said although the government has taken various measures to improve electricity generation‚ yet there is still need to work on war footing to narrow the demand and supply gap.
