ISLAMABAD: An accountability court on Tuesday indicted former prime minister Raja Pervaiz Ashraf, former Finance Affairs minister Shaukat Tareen among 11 accused in the rental power projects case.

Former former federal secretaries Ismail Qureshi and Shahid Rafi were also among those indicted in the case of the alleged corruption in the Sahiwal and Piranghaib rental power projects. During the hearing, accountability court judge Muhammad Bashir dismissed pleas filed by Tareen and Qureshi and requested that their names be dropped from the case.

The court indicted all accused of the case. The court adjourned the hearing till June 20 and directed the NAB to provide evidence and witnesses against the indicted. NAB has been investigating 12 RPPs cases in which nine firms reportedly received more than Rs22 billion as mobilisation advance from the government to commission the projects, but most of them were accused of failing to set up plants.

The NAB has already recovered Rs13 billion in the case.

End.
