COAS directed all concerned to initiate actions on urgent basis
25 December, 2014
Islamabad: The COAS directed all concerned to initiate actions on urgent basis for its speedy and effective implementation.
Reiterating his resolve in unequivocal terms to root out this menace of extremism and terrorism, the COAS paid tribute to the political leadership of the country for ‘their spirit and unwavering resolve’ to rid Pakistan of terrorism through reforms and administrative measures.
General Sharif hoped that in keeping with confidence and trust of the nation, the consensus could be transformed into practical actions on ground.
The meeting comes at a time when the nation is grappling with terrorism, with the December 16 attack on Army Public School Peshawar being the worst possible strike on innocents.
Earlier, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif announced in a late-night address to the nation on Thursday 25 December 2014 that the country’s political leadership had agreed to set up special military courts to try hardened terrorists.
The courts, which will be operative for two years, will require a constitutional amendment before they could start functioning.
“All day on Thursday 25 December 2014, according to a participant of the meeting held at the PM House, the military leadership stressed the need to set up military courts as the justice system had failed to deliver.”
