KARACHI: Pakistan currently faces series of challenges, predominantly terrorism against which both the armed forces and government are equally committed, said President Mamnoon Hussain.

Talking to participants of the first international exhibition of alternative medicine here on Saturday 17,January,2015, he said a national consensus has already been developed to eliminate the menace of terrorism, for which no compromise would be made. "No concession can be extended to these terrorists responsible for killing people including children under faulty pretext,” said the president.

Mamnoon said that these terrorists and militants might be talking of religion but factually had no inkling about the religion itself. He said the issue itself was closely linked to law and order situation in the country that holds further implications for the economic development.

"Fortunately we currently have a team of competent and honest people trying to pull the country out of the crisis despite extremely difficult situation and resource constraints,” said the president.

In the given situation, he said quality education coupled with human resource development were the tools that could help the country, tremendously blessed with natural resources, gain steady development and prosperity. About establishment of a university or other institutions of higher education, he said faculty holds the utmost importance, followed by curriculum and facilities provided to the students.

Mamnoon also referred to the series of power generation projects initiated by the government, enabling country to produce surplus power within next few years. A phase-wise approach had been adopted under which three nuclear plants along with dams were in process of being materialised, he said mentioning two of the nuclear power plants in Karachi.

He said Economic Corridor project started with the support of China would be a major hallmark in the country's history of development, with Kashgar linked to Gwadar and further to Karachi, also with a provision for railway track coupled with a scheme to build Gwadar international port and so forth.
